Doomentia Records (2012)

I have many reasons to be proud of my Finnish roots, and one of those is absolutely the great metal music industry that our small land has. No matter what the sub-genre seems to be, there are lots of great bands to be found, like Horse Latitudes for example.

Horse Latitudes has taken its name from the song by The Doors, but the music of theirs is quite far from acid-crazed and manic rock'n'roll. ”Awakening” is the second album by this eccentric trio, and their music is sloooooowwwwww like a sloth sleepwalking under the influence of heavy dose of sedatives.

The music and the lyrics are as dark as the blackest night, but somehow I find this album very relaxing and peaceful experience. Maybe it's the slow tempo that almost stops your pulse, the long and hypnotic heavy bass-riffs (no guitars used on the album, by the way) or the simple vocal lines. Or perhaps just all this together.

”Awakening” isn't the best album made in this genre, but it's truly worth the attention for everyone into REAL doom/sludge. No bullshit modern you-name-it-core-screaming here, just traditional and highly addictive heavy sounds deep from the underground.
