My Kingdom Music (2012)
Welcome to some Italian post rock with an alternative metal element on this debut album “The Essence Remains” from L’Alba Di Morrigan. Tranquil, serene vocals (almost new age-like) blend seamlessly next to the psychedelic guitar lines and lighter bass/drum parts in songs such as “Silence” and opener “Snowstorm”, while the heavier two part “Holy Mountain” saga and follow up folk-ish “24 Megatons” give the band more of a Katatonia meets Anathema atmosphere.
When in the right frame of mind, “The Essence Remains” provides mental relief from the daily stress of life. Be aware that this is most assuredly leaning on the alternative post rock side, although some of the guitar play and drumming does get heavier when the arrangements call for it to be. L’Alba Di Morrigan have hypnotic melodies and addictive main chord sequences, so I think this is a band to keep on your radar screen.
