Nightmare Records (2012)
A Washington, DC based female fronted heavy metal band, A Sound Of Thunder combine an array of styles for this second album “Out Of The Darkness”. Female vocalist Nina Osegueda floats between operatic endeavors on “The Nightwitch” or the conventional traditional power approach a la Halford or Dio in “Fight Until The End”. Musically A Sound Of Thunder combine 70’s influences like Judas Priest and Black Sabbath with mid-tempo power metal: Accept, Benedictum and Hammerfall come to mind most when I heard songs like “Murderous Horde”, the fast and furious title cut with guest male vocals from Raven’s John Gallagher and the epic 8:35 closer “Discovery”.
Another quartet perfect for those who miss the tried and true conventional riffs, drum patterns and soaring vocals that made early metal exciting and worth deep discussion/ investigation. Thumbs up as we need more American bands flying the flag high for high quality, guitar driven power metal like A Sound Of Thunder.
