Pure Legend Records (2012)
Out of the ashes of Stygma IV comes the heavy metal quartet Crimson Cult with their second album “Tales Of Doom”. Much more straightforward with 80’s Savatage and Dio in their riffing and songwriting appeal, vocalist Walter Stuefer wields a decent mid-range voice through standouts like “Institution Christ” and “Second Life”. Guitarist Gunter Maier flexes his epic skills with a touch of Rainbow and Iron Maiden into the proceedings for the 9 minute centerpiece “The Long Way Home”, where even bassist Alexander Hilzensauer gains some bottom end Geddy Lee-like spotlight during the instrumental sections.
Nothing groundbreaking, but Crimson Cult should appeal to the old school maniacs with this one.
